Webair adds $20m to upgrade datacentre includes adding genset and UPS

November 29, 2017

US managed Cloud hosting services provider Webair has announced a $20 million investment to upgrade its New York datacentre (NY1), including installation of a third generator and UPS to support an additional 1 MW of critical IT load.

The company told BBB that Webair is currently evaluating Emerson, Schneider and other UPS suppliers, and are actively looking at modular and lithium-ion based systems.

Built to Tier III standards and meeting the most stringent compliance requirements, Webair’s NY1 offers the greatest amount of redundancy of any datacentre in east of Manhattan, said the company.

The large investment from the company is a consequence of its recent acceptance into the New York Empire State Development programme. Under this, there is an allocation of 1 MW of low-cost hydropower from New York Power Authority’s ReCharge NY programme. This will support Webair’s NY1 infrastructure on Long Island over the next four years.
